Preaches n' Cream

A Parkdale Wishlist

If you have some money kicking around and really want to open a business in Parkdale but are at a loss for ideas after the recent bar and resto ban, may I please present to you:

Parkdale Needs These - The Unofficial List

  • Health Food Store: a really good one with fancy groceries, supplements, home wares and beauty products.
  • Fitness Studio: something fun, like that one on Ossington, but maybe just for girls.
  • Vegan Restaurant: Maybe Fresh could come a little bit more west…Please?
  • Boutique Hotel: Yea, Yea, Yea, I know…I could hit the Gladstone with a rock if I threw it from my window. But what about something on this side of Dufferin…with a  rooftop pool and palm trees?
  • Grocery Store: Better than FreshCo. but not expensive and crap like Metro…A mini Loblaws perhaps?

Adventures in Veganism

Most of us were not born vegan, it is something we decide to do later in life. As a result, many of us are probably left with a bunch of leather, silk, wool or fur goods after the switch.

I don’t want to wear the goods anymore, but on the other hand I don’t like to waste money, plus I’d feel disrespectful just tossing my old leather goods out, after all, an animal had to die for those shoes.

So today I took all of my non vegan items to a a local shop called Common Sort and sold everything. I made a few bucks… way less than what was originally paid BUT way more money was made than if I’d left them in the closet.

It’s still perpetuating the leather trade by doing this: I just profited from the sale of animal skins. However, the money I made will not go to that industry and going forward, I will not be modelling animal goods nor giving anyone the satisfaction of eyeballing my leather shoes when I say I don’t eat meat.

What would you/did you do with all of your skins?
